About Massage

The earliest civilizations (Persians, Egyptians, Hindus, Chinese) have records documenting Massage as one of their earliest healing art forms, going back to 4,000 BC.

Hippocrates (400 B.C.) wrote papers proclaiming the benefits of rubbing and friction to heal joint and circulatory problems as treatments towards the root cause.

Today, Massage is widely accepted to provide relief and rehabilitation for many chronic conditions including the relief of stress and tension from everyday living that can lead to disease and illness.

There are more than 250 variations of massage, bodywork, and somatic (body cell) therapies.

Marilyn and many other practitioners customize their techniques to include modifications of the basics:

§         stroking, kneading, tapping, compression, vibration, rocking, & friction

§         pressure to the muscular structure or soft tissues of the body

§         non-forceful passive and/ or movement intended to affect the energetic systems of the body

§         the use of oils, lotions, and powders to reduce friction on the skin

Benefits of Massage

Useful for all of the conditions listed below, and more, massage can:

§         Alleviate lower-back pain, improving range of motion

§         Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles

§         Relax and soften injured, tired, overused muscles

§         Increase joint flexibility

§         Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts

§         Improve, condition the body’s largest organ—the skin

§         Promote tissue regeneration, reducing scar tissue and stretch marks

§         Assist expectant mothers with shorter, easier labor, possibly shortening hospital maternity stays

§         Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body’s natural defense system

§         Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation

§         Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body’s natural painkiller

§         Relieve migraine pain

§         Reduce post-surgery adhesions and swelling.

§         Reduce spasms and cramping

§         Ease medication dependence

§         Lessen depression and anxiety

Bodywork is a powerful ally in any healthcare regimen.

Many experts conclude that most diseases are stress related.

§         Few conditions age us faster, internally and externally, than stress

§         Regular massage can help manage stress, translating into:

§         Decreased anxiety

§         Enhanced sleep quality

§         Greater energy

§         Improved concentration

§         Increased circulation

§         Reduced fatigue

Many report a sense of perspective and clarity after a massage. The emotional balance can be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.

About Marilyn

Marilyn is originally from the beautiful archipelago of the Philippines.

She studied & began her holistic healing career at an early age -- as a young girl. Holistic approaches were the only way her family treated themselves and each other to ease their aches, pains, and ailments.

Later, Marilyn studied massage; attained certification; and still continues to study, practice and learn. She also holds a degree in Forestry.

Aside from being a practitioner, bringing relief to hundreds of people, she has also held instructional positions, teaching her unique blend of scientific-artistry skills to others -- both non-practitioners, and to those within the profession.

Marilyn’s learning, teaching, and practical expertise spans the globe.

q       Having lived in Hong Kong and Malaysia, each for 10 years, Marilyn continue to advance her skills — studying & practicing shiatsu, reflexology, and acupressure — learning methods practiced by the ancient masters, as the Chinese have been doing for 3,000 years.

q       Marilyn integrated the techniques and benefits derived from these ancient techniques into her self-styled rejuvenation repertoire.

Recently, in Pittsburgh, Marilyn owned a successful restaurant:
Jo Gen’s Italian House, named after her 2 beautiful children, Josephine and Genesis.  Marilyn sold the lucrative business to pursue
her passion of Massage Therapy.

Marilyn’s husband is Pittsburgh Native
Howard James Mlakar (mlakar.org)
